Foam Pump Bottle
Dahlia changed the magic stone within the magical lantern and hung it at her workplace.
It was still raining outside.
The magical lantern was the first magical device her grandfather made, apparently.
Using fire magic stones in place of oil and fire, making the lantern itself smaller, it was made more efficient. Since it lasts a long time with just one magic stone, it is used while travelling and patrolling as well.
When her grandfather created it, oil was cheaper, but with the increase in supply of magic stones, their operation costs are more or less the same.
The magic devices developed the most in this country are domestic magic devices.
By Dahlia’s point of view, they are ‘home appliances’.
It seems these so called ‘Domestic magic devices’ were developed at light speed in her grandfather’s generation. Her father said that it might have been possible because of the recent research and spread of magic stones.
Dahlia lined up various parts on her workbench and took some notes on rough paper while putting her thoughts in order.
While plant based paper and writing instruments similar to pencils are a bit expensive in this country, they still widely distributed. The writing instrument itself was a thin charcoal core wrapped in hard paper. Historically, until now most of the contracts were written on parchment, but she heard form the commerce guild that in recent years, the ratio of paper documents has arisen.
The thing she wanted to make the day right after the engagement cancellation, was a foam pump bottle for soapy water. While it wasn’t a magic tool, she decided to make it for a change of pace, with a factor of nostalgia mixed in.
The main components for the pump bottle would be the container, pushed parts on top of the lid, the lid, and the pump attached to the lid. When the lid would be pushed, pressure inside the bottle will increase and pull the contents up through the tubing part of the pump. Before the stuff left, it would go through a mesh and turn into foam. To make sure that the lid comes back up, a spring would be needed to be added.
Fortunately, she has actually disassembled and reassembled one in school class, so she still remembers the rough design. When she entered her company, she also saw some designs of foam pump. Anyway, she decided to make a prototype for it.
When she starts working, she fully realized that if there’s one thing really handy in this world, it is magic.
You can change the hardness and shape of the magic tool’s parts with magic to some extent. There are various kinds of metals, not just those from her previous life, but also fantasy ones such as Mithril, Magic Silver and Orichalcum. Although there are no plastic, you can use monster’s materials such as slime or kraken that could be used as substitutes.
At her academy’s department of magic devices, she learnt assembling from the basics; although in many cases unusual combination and procedures also work. It was all about trial and error, finding the response she seeks– for Dahlia, she couldn’t help but enjoy it immensely.
As she keep writing down some notes, she made some parts, tuned them with magic, checked their construction, and assembled them. The unique rainbow colored radiance that comes out when manufacturing the parts illuminated the night in the workshop. Disassembling and reassembling it; taking notes in between. She repeatedly did that without any distractions.
By the way, Dahlia has a bit more mana than ordinary people. It may be because of her ancestors who have been magical device craftsmen for generations, and her mother who hails from a noble lineage. Although, Dahlia never knew her mother’s face.
Her mother was just like a storm; she married her father, give birth to Dahlia, then went back to her parents’ home and never come back. Only Dahlia was sent back to her father, and ended up growing up there.
Even if you say her magic power was higher than common people, at the academy it would never reach the level of those from the higher nobility. Having heard of the flashy magic that magicians use, sometimes she wanted to at least get a boost in magic; she was reincarnated, after all.
However, Dahlia had a knack for magic output; she could release a stable weak stream of magic power for a long period of time. It was truly convenient for making and modifying detailed parts, suitable for a magical devices craftsman. She still grateful for that fact to this day.
By just repeating trials and errors, time passed in the blink of an eye.
Adjustment for the pump and spring took longer than expected that it took almost all the night, but at least she made two prototypes. After that she would test if the foam is forming from the soap in the bathroom, and make corrections repeatedly if needed.
Taking a breather, Dahlia picked up a wine and a glass from the side table, and finally stretched her arms. The wine had turned completely lukewarm.
After returning the carriage, she went to the store to buy red wine, but somehow she bought white wine, instead.
While sipping the wine through her throat, she remembered the man who was engrossed in the talk of magic sword with her.
While it was only a few hours, the two of them enjoyed their talk. Even now, she still giggled when reminiscing about it. If she were a man, or conversely, if Wolf was a woman, she would surely have provided her contact information.
The capital is vast, the likelihood of meeting him again is slim. Even if they were to meet again, with his vision blurry at that time, he won’t recognize Dahlia as Dahl.
Thinking that she probably won’t meet him gain in the future, Dahlia quietly prayed to God for his recovery
“I hope Sir Wolf’s eyes get better soon…” 1
the translations here are so much better than the other person’s~ I don’t think they even attempt to edit~ thank you for your hard work!
Yeah, it will become a battle of quantity vs quality, probably. If he’s still translating it. Well, Imma read on both sides tho. Since I like em both
Thanks for the chapter ^_^
Thanks for the chap~
I’m going to read both. I do prefer this translation but I also appreciate the other blog for trying to get content out for us!
Thanks for translating as always.
Even if he translates faster, when you post a chapter, I will reread the content.
Appreciate your translation quality. The projects you pick up are always top-notch!
Thanks
Ah geez… I thought of trying out the other guy first cause he’s further ahead, but I just can’t. I might as well just check out the original WN, and get by on Google Translate… This site’s is MUCH better. I hope you continue with this project (hopefully at a steady pace?)
