Let’s Make a Field

“It’s completed! If I mix this up, we’ll be able to make a nice field!” I reported to Dan as I was delighted.
“Well then, I better get to making that field,” Dan said, then brought his hoe and shovel to the place—next to my laboratory—which was planned to be my field.
“First, I’m going to dig up the soil with a shovel roughly, like this.”
He dug up a rough row in the field.
“I’ll do it too! I want to learn how to do this so I can open my own atelier someday!”
Dan handed me the shovel.
“Heave ho.”
It’s quite hard. It’s a lot of work for a five-year-old, however, if you don’t do it yourself, you’ll never learn how to do it.
Somehow, I managed to finish the whole row.
“You did your best, didn’t you? I will handle the rest of the work,” Dan said, then dug up the soil in a familiar manner.
“Next, I will slightly loosen up the soil that I dug up,” he said as he showed me a row as an example again.
“Now then, try doing it.”
I nodded my head, held the heavy hoe, then steadily broke the soil apart finely.
After I finished a row, Dan changed with me and loosened up the rest of the soil.
Then, the two of us broke up the remaining tiny bit of soil that hasn’t been loosened enough yet with our hands.
“Dan, I want to mix this as a source of nutrients for the soil!” I said, then showed him the [Rich Soil] that I just made that was in the wooden bucket.
“Wow, its fertilizer made by Ojou-sama.”
Dan looked at the contents of the wooden bucket with great interest.
Then, with a shout, Dan lifted the wooden bucket and tossed the contents evenly on top of the soil he had just loosened up.
“Well then, I’m going to mix it in.”
Dan mixed the soil with [Rich Soil] equally.
Then, Dan did the portion… where we have to make ridges and smoothen them out.
A field, the size of one person’s worth, was finally completed next to my laboratory!
“How do I increase the number of herbs? I would like to create a medicinal herb farm though……” I asked Dan with my head tilted to the side puzzled.
“Hmm, there are places that carry wheat seeds, but not herbs.”
That’s right, herbs can be used as ingredients for potions are usually collected from the wild or, if they’re found in a dangerous area, you can get them from the adventurer’s guild by submitting a collection request.
Incidentally, the initial healing herbs I obtained were sold in a herb store that obtained them in the methods mentioned above.
Herb seeds are not available for sale anywhere.
“By the way, Ojou-sama, what kind of seeds were you hoping for?”
“Healing herbs and mana grass can be found further in the forest so I am fine on that, but in order to create my new potion, I want [Medicinal Herbs] and [Mage Herbs].”
“If that is the case, those herbs should be growing along the streamlet north of the capital. If you do not mind, I can escort you there, but your parent’s permission would be necessary.”
I have to discuss this with Father and Mother I see…
“Well then, shall we go get mana grass and healing herbs first?”
…Hm? I can go to the forest behind the mansion by myself, you know?
“Would it not be fine if you brought the herbs back, pulled out by their roots, and transplanted them?”
Having said that, Dan smiled, looking like he was pointing out something obvious.
“Transplanting flowers and herbs have to be done gently or else the roots snap and they wither. Let’s go together and I will teach you how to transplant them.
During that day, I went with Dan to collect the herbs and planted the healing herbs and mana grass in the field.
◆
That evening, after Father came home from work, I told him that the field was completed. I discussed with him that I would like to buy some [Mage Herbs] to make good-quality mana potions and some [Medicinal Herbs] seeds to make high potions.
“Even I would like to buy good-quality mana potions for my division if I could get my hands on some.”
Father, the Vice-Magician of the Mage Troops, took the bait.
“That is the case. I thought that I would be helping Father if I could create good mana potions, but… I have to search for the seeds along the streamlet north of the capital. Is it okay to go together with Dan?”
Father and Mother exchanged glances at each other.
“Over there, the only monsters that appear are just slimes. It’s fine to go, however, just in case, make sure to bring some potions.”
“Also, a magic gem is needed in order to create mana potion. Could I perhaps receive one?”
Magic gems are gems that reside in a monster’s body. Just like its name implies, it is a gem that holds mana.
“Just one?”
It seems like Father is interested in the mana potion production and made sure.
“According to [Introductions to Alchemy], the magic gem is not consumed one gem per potion, but apparently, it is necessary in order to stimulate the change of the potion, thus not dissolving, so it seems like it is possible to reuse the magic gem. Therefore, although one magic gem is okay, I would prefer one as good quality as possible.”
“Despite being my child, you understand so much and speak so theoretically. It is hard to believe we are talking to a five-year-old,” Mother said as she smiled, then Father excused himself in order to go to the warehouse to get the magic stone.
I chose the best quality mana gem using Appraisal out of all the ones Father brought from the warehouse.

Seems like magic gems are more catalysts.
