At home, I still had no idea that something had happened at the royal castle.
The only thing I knew was that the result of a failed experiment was in front of me.
Let’s use this failure as food for thought. Uh-huh. Let’s rethink this…
I tried writing down on a piece of paper to organize the extraction conditions for each material:
1. Antidote Herb → Processing unnecessary, no boiling (Verified)
2. Mandrake root → There is a need to boil? (Unverified)
3. Magic Gem → Effect not demonstrated as a catalyst. The components were not extracted, so maybe something else? (Unverified)
First, I need to verify the extraction temperature of the mandrake root listed in note #2.
I put the chopped mandrake root and distilled water into a new beaker, then started to heat it.
[Mandrake Extract???]Classification: Medicine Ingredient
Quality: Low—
Details: The components have not been extracted.
When I let it sit for a bit longer, the bubbles grew larger. Up to before it boiled, the state did not change.
Then, the solution began to boil.
The bubbles frothed as they burbled and the finely minced mandrake roots were dancing.
All right, the solution is fine even if it’s boiling!
Then, let’s continue like this…
Classification: Medicine Ingredient
Quality: High
Details: The components are well-extracted.
After simmering for a while, I was able to properly produce the extract!
I corrected the notes I jotted down:
1. Antidote Herb → Processing unnecessary, no boiling (Verified)
2. Mandrake root → There is a need to boil? (Verified)
3. Magic Gem → Effect not demonstrated as a catalyst. The components were not extracted, so maybe something else? (Unverified)
Perhaps, I should make the extract of the Antidote Herb and the extract of mandrake separately, put the Magic Gem into the mixture, then combine the ingredients using the Magic Gem as the catalyst. The water temperature should not be at boiling level, but everything else is unknown. These were the findings that I was able to consolidate so far.
…Then, at that moment.
Bang! The laboratory door was violently opened with a loud noise.
“Father?” I tilted my head in surprise at the sudden arrival of my father. After all, he should still be at work.
“Daisy, have you made any detoxification potions? Didn’t you get some Antidote Herbs for your birthday?”
Father asked hastily as he breathed heavily probably because he came here in a rush.
“I’m experimenting with making a potent detoxification potion right now…”
“Well then, hurry up and finish it!”
Father said, “All right, we’ll make it in time!” on his own accord.
…’I’m experimenting’ is not equal to ‘can do’.
I was in the middle of trial and error right now, so when someone interrupted, my mind got really disorderly.
“I need to do this quietly, so Father, please wait for me in the living room.”
I kicked him out of the laboratory and closed the door.
…I tried to recall again how far I’ve gotten.
I took a deep breath and looked down at my notes.
I created the extracted liquid from the Antidote Herb and mandrake extract separately, added Magic Gems in the mixed solutions, then transformed the components using the Magic Gem as a catalyst.
Now, the mandrake extract is about ready.
Next, it’s time to make the Antidote Herb extract.
I put the finely minced Antidote Herb and a bit of distilled water into a new beaker, then started to heat it.
I stopped heating the solution right before it was about to boil, then the extraction was complete.
[Antidote Herb Extract]Classification: Medicine Ingredient
Quality: High
Details: The components are well-extracted.
I put the Magic Gem into the Antidote Herb extract, then added the mandrake extract, which had cooled down considerably.
Then, I carefully stirred the solution.
[Potent Detoxification Potion?]Classification: Medicine
Quality: Low—
Details: Multiple mutual components have not reacted.
I couldn’t see much reaction occurring at this current temperature, thus I cautiously heated the solution.
After all, I didn’t see the decrease in quality before boiling, so I raised the temperature to boiling and kept it there.
[Potent Detoxification Potion?]Classification: Medicine
Quality: Low–
Details: Multiple mutual components have begun to react.
Yup, if I keep going like this, this should work…
I slowly stirred the solution around with a stick.
Then.
[Potent Detoxification Potion]Classification: Medicine
Quality: High
Details: Can cure any poison. However, excluding other abnormal conditions.
Since Father seemed to be in a hurry, I used the water magic to produce some ice water in a tub and dipped the beaker into it to cool it down quickly. Then, I strained the potion through a cloth and put the medicine into a potion vial.
I took the two vials and hurried to the living room where Father was waiting.
“Father! It’s finished!”
“Well done, Daisy!”
Father picked me up and rubbed our cheeks together.
“I’m taking Daisy with me to the royal castle!” Father picked me up in his arms and started to take me to the carriage.
“Father, let me please take the pouch I always use,” I requested, then our maid Kate noticed and handed me my pouch.
“Thanks, Kate.”
I put the new potion in the pouch, then slung it over my shoulder.
Father and I got on the carriage and hurried to the castle.
