We left the Orc Forest southeast of the royal capital and rode our horses (I was on Leaf) at a walking pace along the main road towards the Orkenian grasslands this time.
Shortly after, I saw a thick forest on the side of the road ahead of us where I could see a wagon being attacked by ogres and adventurers struggling to protect it. I wondered if the ogre had strayed from the forest?
“Shall we back them up?” the knight asked Father.
“Of course, let’s go!”
As soon as Father gave the order, everyone galloped forward to save the wagon. Leaf was also keeping pace with them.
“Daisy-sama, can you go with the from before earth magic that captured those orcs?” the knight looked over his shoulder while asking me.
I nodded, “I can!”
Then, Leaf sped up a bit. When I took a look, I saw that there were three ogres and four adventurers. Some of the adventurers seemed to be injured and they were losing ground.
They entered my range of magic.
“I’ll back you up!” “Rose Whip!”
With one hand, I did my best to hold onto Leaf’s reins, and with the other, I released magic at the ogres.
Hundreds of thorny ivy sprouted from the ground and attacked the three ogres.
The ogres attacked the ivy in an attempt to get rid of the new hindrance, however, no matter how hard they cut, the ivy continued to attack them in greater numbers.
Eventually, the ogres were wrapped up in the thorny ivy, and the three of them rolled together on the ground.
Suddenly freed from the critical situation they had been in, the adventurers were stunned.
…No, don’t space out, hurry up and kill them.
The ogres had their heads lopped off cleanly by the knights who rushed in.
The knights seemed to be happy that they were able to defeat them safely.
“Man, your help is always welcomed in these kinds of subjugations any time.”
“Daisy-sama, would you like to enter the Knight Order?”
…I never thought I would get an invitation to join the Knight Order!
“I cannot! I decided to open my own atelier as an alchemist!” I politely declined the invitation to join the Knight Order.
While we chatted elsewhere, the healer Onee-san healed the injured adventurers.
Then, the carriage door opened with a creak, and a well-dressed, wealthy man and woman stepped out of the carriage. There were tracks of a little girl inside, however, she did not get off the carriage.
“My name is Oliver and I do business in the capital. I would like to thank you very much for saving us from a dangerous situation. I have a daughter inside, but she has some trouble with her legs and has difficulty getting out of the carriage, so I apologize that she is unable to greet you,” the merchant man said, then the merchant couple bowed to us.
“If you wanted to thank someone, it would be this miss. She is the one who disabled the ogres,” one of the knights said and brought me into the conversation.
“This lovely young miss? You must be a genius to be able to use magic like that at such an early age! Miss, thank you for saving us,” Oliver-san said, then gave me a deep bow.
I just smiled abashedly saying, “Don’t mind it,” while feeling a bit embarrassed.
“Ah! That’s right, Miss, please wait a moment,” Oliver said, then went into the carriage and rummaged around for something before coming back.
“This is a meager gift for you, Miss, but I would like for you to accept this as a token of my appreciation,” Oliver said, then presented a lovely hair clip with a small aquamarine flower and a small peridot as a leaf attached to the side.
I turned to Father and asked him if I could accept the gift through exchanging glances.
Father nodded his head in agreement.
Our unit is not officially part of the nation’s army. From an outsider standpoint, they were just members sent as guards to protect an alchemist that needed to gather some things. It was not that rigid that it would require us to reject even the smallest amount of gratitude.
“Thank you for your kindness. This is a very pretty item. I’m very happy with it,” I accepted the small, lovely item with a smile and thanked him after receiving Father’s okay.
Eventually, the adventurers who were supposed to protect Oliver’s group had finished recovering, and after saying goodbye to them, we progressed west again.
In the end, we did not encounter any monsters in the Orkenia Meadows itself and were able to focus on gathering. As a result, the ‘Donna Grass Roots’ were found soon after.
‘Donna Grass’ is a plant with toxic leaves and berries. Therefore, I had the knights in full plate armor pull out the plant and collect the roots.
Now, I had all the materials I needed.
