At 0740 hours the next day, a helicopter at Shadow Moon Headquarters was preparing for take-off.
“Captain Tang, why are you the only one being deployed for this mission?”
Nightcat asked curiously.
“Is there a need to deploy a lot of people for such an ordinary investigative mission? All of you should just relax and rest comfortably for a few days, sigh…… doing extra work is just part of my responsibilities as captain.”
All the members of Shadow were gathered beside the helicopter. While Princess Gu Xin gazed at the joking Tang Ke, she seemed to be thinking of something unsaid in her heart.
“Oh? Captain Tang is in a good mood! But… since I’m still not fully entertained from last time, I’ll have to come up with more things for you to do when you return?~”1
The devilish Meng Yuting said as she sauntered over while probably thinking up some new rotten idea.
Tang Ke looked at her smiling face and her scheming expression – and he started to become unsettled at the possible ideas which already seemed to be brewing in her mind.
“Ahem. It’s time. I’ll be going now.”
Tang Ke grasped this opportunity to leave. He immediately boarded the helicopter and closed the door. The light helicopter quickly ascended. Tang Ke looked out of the window at his team, watching them become more and more distant. His gaze finally lingered on Gu Xin’s face, to find that she had been looking up at him intensely.
“……”
Once the plane had ascended out of view, the rest of the team left and returned to their usual duties. At this moment Meng Yuting noticed Gu Xin.
“What’s wrong, Xin-er? Is there something on your mind?”
Gu Xin’s sense of perception returned to her body as her gaze left the now distant helicopter.
“I don’t know why, but I have a bad feeling about this.”
Saying this, Gu Xin touched the translucent bracelet she wore on her left hand. This was not a normal bracelet – the translucent body’s surface was carved with an irregular decorative design. In fact, this bracelet was something made with Tang Ke’s ability. Tang Ke has an extremely rare machine-related ability. This ability allows him to use any futuristic weapons or body armor, moreover, he’s able to impart this ability on others. Thus the bracelet on Gu Xin’s arm is a physical materialization from Tang Ke’s abilities. The other four members wear similar items on their bodies – for example, Meng Yuting has a beautiful earring. This device allows one to manifest a body armor rapidly. In a way, since everyone on the team had a similar device, this could be considered a team ability.
“Nothing will happen, it’s just a reconnaissance mission.”
Meng Yuting tried to console her girlfriend.
“I hope so.”
Gu Xin sighed. She turned and, with Meng Yuting in hand, walked back into the building. Within her heart she thought:
‘A recon mission which requires Shadow to be deployed, how could it be simple……?’
~~~
Tang Ke’s helicopter hovered over the middle of the Pacific Ocean, approaching the destination no further. He jumped off the helicopter.
“Neptune, start.”
In response to Tang Ke’s thoughts, blue particles appeared all over his body as he descended. A light blue body armor shimmered into existence on his body. As Tang Ke entered the water, the propeller on the back of his armor started up and he sped off towards his destination.
A short while later, an island appeared dead ahead in Tang Ke’s vision. He slowed down his approach and stealthily approached the shore. Oddly, many of the patrol boats were moored by the shoreside – none of them were out on patrol.
Successfully stealthily reaching the shore, Tang Ke canceled his ability. The armor disappeared. On his body were ordinary clothes, a coarse set of jacket and trousers which were riddled with holes, a pair of ordinary sports shoes, and a grey baseball cap. Tang Ke straightened up his clothes and headed towards the forest.
Passing through the not too dense forest, Tang Ke easily came across the research institute.
Virtual binoculars appeared in front of Tang Ke’s eyes. After surveying the area for a bit, he noticed four guards at the door drinking alcohol. After making a mental note of their drunken appearance, he thought for a bit and decided on one method of infiltration. So he turned around and headed back.
A short moment later, Tang Ke appeared once again to the same spot, now completely drenched from head to toe, he headed towards the building.
As he approached, the four guards noticed a figure walking towards them. Tang Ke was acting as if he was drunk, swaying from side to side as he walked, eventually staggering his way to the entrance of the building.
A guard hailed him:
“Wei! What’s up with you, how did you get all wet?”
Tang Ke spat. In a loud voice, he said:
“Fuck, say no more, I was just going out to pee, then a suddenly a gust from the sea blew me into the water. I almost drowned!”
“Hahaha! You alright bro? Looking at you – you’ve drunk too much, you can’t even stand straight.”
“Your mother drank too much, I’m not drunk!”
Tang Ke speech was slurred as he said that.
“Okay, okay, you’re not drunk, but you should change out of those wet clothes, then you can drink some more.”
In his heart Tang Ke sneered:
‘Hook, line and sinker.’
Just like this, Tang Ke staggered through the entranceway of the research institute.
Soon after, Tang Ke noticed there were many mercenaries drinking in many of the rooms as if it was a celebration. No matter what they were celebrating, it couldn’t be good news.
Tang Ke gradually descended through the facility. Because his clothes were still soaked with the stench of alcohol, he managed to reach the core of a facility without a hitch.
After scouting around for a bit, Tang Ke finally found the location of the core laboratory. Once he was sure he wasn’t being monitored, he stood at the doorway and released a perception-increasing ability. Now certain nobody was present, he materialized an item that looked much like a hard disk and placed it on the fingerprint sensor on the door. A faint blue glow appeared and soon after the door unlocked itself. Tang Ke pushed open the door and entered, and what looked like a typical laboratory greeted him. Tang Ke noticed a few huge culturing tanks as well as a wide variety of precision instruments. Tang Ke walked over to one of the tanks and looked at the yellow liquid inside. It was a really murky fluid. Looking more closely, he realized there was a person floating inside! Tang Ke couldn’t help but clench his fists,
“These bastards – to go so far as to experiment on humans!!”
Tang Ke started to more thoroughly examine the surrounding goods and materials. What Tang Ke failed to notice was that one tank in the middle was much bigger than all the rest…
