Was it when I was two or three-years-old? When I was able to read, I was pretending to read a picture book in the study.
The history written in the books in the study was clearly different than the history I knew.
“Ah. It’s become the “surrender” of the Pacific War. What happened to Germany fighting to the end after failing at Normandy……” (TL: The Pacific War refers to the Pacific theater of World War II.)
Putting aside the subtle details, although this world’s post-WWII Japanese history was slightly different from the Japanese history I know, the general trends progressed roughly the same.
In the cold war, Japan joined the Western Bloc, and we dispatched troops in the Manchurian war (this was probably the Korean War) and the Vietnam war.
We also dispatched units in the Gulf War that occurred recently, and we have become one of the core multinational forces.
Even so, it seems like we were not able to avoid the surrender forced by the intervention of the Allies, and it was quite an interesting point that we still formed the JSDF. 1
The House of Lords became the House of Councillors, and after going through several reforms, the House of Representatives has become the superior house and the members of the Diet change through elections.
The game designer’s hardship was somewhat concealed in the villainess’s peerage.
Another game-like aspect is business conglomerates. (T/N: Zaibatsu will be called “business conglomerates” in the translations except in special cases. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaibatsu)
After the defeat in the Pacific War, due to the dissolution of business conglomerates, business conglomerates transformed into business-to-business federations called business groups in Japan.
However, there was no unconditional surrender in this world, so the business conglomerates survived.
Nonetheless, the negative aspects properly appeared, and currently, with the collapse of the bubble economy, business conglomerates dissolved and minor business conglomerates went bankrupt.
The Teia group, the home of the capture target, Teia Eiichi—the son of a business conglomerate, ate up the small business conglomerates during the restructuring of conglomerates and grew big, becoming one of Japan’s leading business federations.
Currently, business conglomerates are carrying an enormous amount of bad debt, and it’s further increasing.
When I thought they might go bankrupt, I recalled the game relationship diagram.
Izumikawa Yujiro from a family of politicians, was a cornerstone for the Ministry of Finance, and Gotou Mitsuya, whose father is the current Minister of Finance, were both too influential to be crushed and got through with state relief!!!
With the banks in their hands, this must be a plan to increase their size with relief mergers using the Bank of Japan’s special loans.
I went off-topic.
My family, the Keikain House, seemed to be originally nobles under the subject of the state.
Then, the lineage of the house was cut off during the war, but my grandfather, Keikain Hikomaro stepped up as the adopted son of the family.
Despite his elegant name, he was born as an illegitimate child of a certain family and entered the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He advanced in the police field, and climbed to the top to become the police superintendent of the Special Higher Police, then participated in Japan’s political change during the war.
He took command in the investigation of the serious crime of the assassination of the prime minister at the time and ended up taking responsibility by resigning from the Ministry of Home Affairs due to the typical unsettled Japanese-like end where the criminal was left unidentified.
After that, he succeeded the Keikain House’s family name and was bestowed the rank of duke as though it were hush money.
There were many enemies because of this sort of upcoming peerage, but the weaknesses he grasped of his political opponents during his time as a police bureaucrat became the foundation for our house’s growth.
The production facilities were still safe when we lost the war, and by continuing to sell military supplies during the Manchurian War, Chinese Civil War, and Vietnam War, the country got back on their feet. The Keikain House also enjoyed the benefits. 2
The core of our family’s business was Keika Pharmaceutical.
We were in charge of supplying medical supplies to the post-war JSDF and troops overseas.
In the process, he went with the times and developed into a mid-class business conglomerate, holding Keika Chemical Industries, Keika Marine Merchant, Keika Firm, Keika Warehouse, Keika Maritime Insurance, Far East Bank, Far East Life, Far East Hotels, and Far East Land Development then resulted in hardships. 3
The engagement between Teia Eiichi and I, which was the center of the story, was due to the relief aid of the Keika Business Conglomerate.
My grandfather built his fortune alongside war with his pharmaceutical company… ahh…
He knew Japan’s other side as the superintendent of the Special Higher Police… ahh…
Let’s pretend I didn’t see anything.
It was too early for me to know these kinds of things.
I closed the book with a snap and left the study.
I touched my blonde hair that was reflected in the mirror hanging in the hallway.
I thought there wouldn’t be a person with blond hair and fair skin in Japan, but there were many reasons for this too it seems. The game designers endured great hardships.
My grandfather, who obtained power and money, was a womanizer and gaudy, and it seems like he has a reputation with various women.
One of those people was a girl whose ancestor was a Russian noble seeking asylum in Japan. The fact that the records were erased was enough to make me wonder how bad it was.
Thus, my father was born out of that relationship, but initially, he was just kept nearby as an illegitimate child without being recognized.
There were a group of people who approached him and offered him some business.
It was the Far East Group that was formed mainly by the exiled Russians.
My father kept it a secret from my grandfather and borrowed the Keikain name and assets, married their miss, and expanded the Far East Group, and became independent.
When it was discovered that the Far East Group was a spy ring from the Eastern Bloc and that they were starting up to spy on Western Bloc technologies, the situation progressed to a point where no one could profit. 4
My mother passed away shortly after giving birth to me and after the investigation was terminated due to the family’s special status, my father committed an enigmatic suicide, leaving me unaware/oblivious of what my parents looked like.
My grandfather, who could resolve this issue with his strong arm, had already left for the road to the afterlife, and the Eastern Bloc had lost their country in the first place. 5
In order to privately clean up this scandal, the Keikain business conglomerate absorbed the Far East Group as a kind of national policy, and at that point, the bubble burst.
Thus, the Keika Group, which was carrying bad debt, was absorbed by the Teia Group.
At this moment, I had no allies.
In fact, I live with my wet nurse in a mansion separate from the main house.
Yup.
I will distort my fate and struggle to change my future.
Then, from the Teia Group’s point of view, there would be no reason to be engaged with me at all.
There’s no way that the breaking off of my engagement was planned from the beginning, right?
All I have is this beautiful face that can be mistaken for a Caucasian and this beautiful blond hair.
And only a bit of knowledge from my previous life.
Ahh.
This beautiful face is the price of having your engagement annulled, isn’t it?

- Slavemaster (Cloud): The JSDF is a “self-defense” force meant to protect Japan from invasions, however, they are not allowed to leave the country. She’s surprised that Japan still formed the JSDF when they still have their army intact.
Slothmaster (Arocks): What I, personally, find most interesting is that all of this is actually a theoretically possible alternate timeline. As a reader, although I might find dozens of annoying points in regards to this author in the future, I am absolutely impressed by this aspect of world-building. - Slothmaster: I am tempted to take my comment about possibly nitpicking on this author. This world-building is simply too beautiful to bother nitpicking at this rate. Hopefully, though, the characters are also equally well-built.
- Slavemaster (Cloud): No relationship with the IRL Far East Bank and other companies.
- Slavemaster (Cloud): Don’t forget Japan is part of the Western Bloc. The MC’s father helped the Russians set up a spy ring in exchange for money is what she means.
Slothmaster (Arocks): And the author now has an official convert. A full 5 stars for this story already. Too beautiful. I actually regret having to edit this now, because I’d so much rather just binge re-… Edit this. - Slavemaster (Cloud): The current time is the 90s and the Soviet Union has already dissolved, marking the end of the Eastern Bloc, thus she is implying that there is no point in spying already due to the countries being part of the Eastern Bloc already gone.
Thanks for the new chapter!
That’s a pretty neat worldbuilding! It certainly feels thoughtful.
To recap the differences from our timeline:
1. Japan loses WW2 but didn’t surrender unconditionally.
2. But the IJA/IJN still got disbanded(?), and JSDF founded
3. Zaibatsu survives. Though eventually(?) some companies started Keiretsu.
4. The Korean war is larger in scope, reaching Manchuria.
5. Japan actively participated in the Korean, Vietnam, and the Gulf war. Suggesting perhaps that the Article 9 isn’t implemented in this timeline.
And wow MC’s family is pretty interesting:
1. Got it start by war profiteering.
2. Her grandpa is probably Kenpeitai or if regular police, pretty clearly abuse his position to gain blackmail materials.
3. Is a willing fall guy, got ennobled for his trouble.
4. Fuck a Russian noble (among many other)
5. Her father is a communist sympathizer or at least is used by them to spy/steal techs.
6. Is forced to commit suicide.
7. MC is three-quarter Russian(?)
That’s a real interesting backstory, certainly more complicated backstory than most Villainess lmao. Looking forward to read more!
Is this the translation from the wb?
This is from the LN. There might be many similarities to the WN but some things have be changed.
Wow MC is three-quarter Russian
Very interesting, thanks for the translation and editing
— Thanks for the chapter~ ^^.
still feels amazing reading. XD
This is so interesting.
