Chapter 6: Texas is dominating! Texas goes on the attack!1

The next day, I welcomed the first rays of daybreak on Lemuria. Looks like there will be good weather today.
After my morning routine, I got dressed and wore my head-dress in an unpracticed manner. Reflected in the mirror was the flawless image of a maid.
The skill of wearing a maid uniform was not an ability included in the game’s skill system, therefore I had to manually and clumsily imitate the procedure I found in this body’s memories. I planned to become faster and more proficient at this over time. I had a lot of room for improvement; for example, my crude movements easily tore my pantyhose as I put it on!
I’m not repulsed to wearing pantyhose; I found it easier to accept compared to wearing a skirt. One could also say that wearing pantyhose is a necessity, especially if one didn’t want to feel that uncomfortable airiness between their legs. I felt a maid uniform that only covered oneself from the knee upwards would be morally reprehensible.
In fact, wearing pantyhose makes me feel comfortable. The thinness of the fabric was comparable to that of a cicada’s wing, and the pantyhose gave one a well-shaped outline; the quality of my pantyhose was anachronistically good for the Middle Ages.
“I’m about to run out of slime meat, aren’t I.”
I took an inventory of all the slime meat in the cellar. Because slime meat could be kept for a long time without requiring preservatives, it was one of the few foods that we had left.
While we only had enough to last at most a couple of days, I do not eat as much now as I used to when I was a man.
As I was now an owner-less ‘untamed’2 maid, this meant I currently had no income to buy anything.
Forgive me for not considering selling my body for money as an option – a myriad of other ways for making money existed! Though the most reliable way in a virtual online game would be to go out in the wild to hunt mobs, as mobs can respawn indefinitely. My hunting level is Lv. Max. Thanks to this, I would not have any trouble hunting prey, so I could select what to hunt purely based on monetary value.
“……but it seems going out today …would be a bit difficult.”
A number of people had assembled outside my mansion. As reconnaissance skills were one of the important skills of a maid, I instinctively knew that only with sufficient caution and vigilance will I keep the danger locked outside.
Unfortunately, as I was currently master-less I was unable to fully utilize my reconnaissance skills. Therefore I could only roughly detect what was going on outside. The feedback I got back from my magic power was much like that of a thermal camera. Still, I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to describe what I saw as an impenetrable crowd. There were some people outside trying to maintain order – this was most likely the city guard. I think the guard in charge of this area was Uncle Francis.
Someone was approaching.
He split off from the bustling crowd. Passing through the entrance to the courtyard, he headed straight for the front door of the mansion.
Soon after, I heard knocking coming from the door.
The moment had arrived.
I let out a deep breath, then entered the hall and gently opened the main door.
Before my eyes was…… a sturdy male chest.
Eh?
I subconsciously looked up. My visitor looked to be a very tall man, but this height difference……
No, it’s not that he’s tall, I’m short.
I’m only 160cm tall. I’m 20cm shorter than I was in my previous life. It really is a suitable height for a cute, helpless and cuddleable maiden.3 I couldn’t help but despair at that thought.
“We meet for the first time, Anastasia.”
This tall, burly man was not wearing heavy armor, but instead was wearing a tailored set of luxurious clothing.
“I am the governor of the Lone Star Merchants, Texas.”
––Lone Star Merchants.
It can’t be…… the governor of the second-largest player-controlled merchant guild in the Mikkel kingdom, came to this backwater town to see me in person? For my first face-to-face meeting with a player, isn’t this sort of difficulty a bit too high?
“Good day, Lord Texas. May the Lord bless you.”4
One of the selling points of «The Eternal Pacificus» was that ‘every player can be a part of history’. While ordinarily there was no restriction on your choice of player ID, in order for your deeds to be recorded in The Chronicles, players have to choose a player ID appropriate to the setting of the game.
Otherwise, strange and out-of-place sentences such as ‘On the year XXXX of the Holy Calendar, PinkBunnyRabbit killed the demon king’ would be recorded in the books. This wouldn’t help at all with immersion in the setting.
Just beyond the courtyard’s fence, there was a large audience of players who came to watch.
The only player who actually entered the courtyard was Texas. Uncle Francis and crew were still trying to maintain order. The most likely reason for this big crowd to gather was probably Texas’ background.
[Merchants] were one of the three big categories of human-player guilds. Their playstyle mainly involved trading with others. They greatly preferred competing with financial prowess rather than military might. The number of businesses a [Merchant] guild would get involved in was proportional to their scale, including food, smithery, pharmacy, books, horses, tailoring, etc…… They were practically involved in almost every industry in the game. Their stage was not in combat with guns and knives, but rather battling against rival merchants was their weapon-less battlefield.Ordinarily, merchants do not possess great ability at combat, but their financial resources more than make up for this flaw. Should a player offend a merchant, they would come to realize that their [reputation] would slowly start to fall by itself. Peddlers and traders have always been the carriers of rumors, and merchants would use their connections with them to spread such rumors like the plague. Members of large merchant guilds have a lot of pull, thus offending a merchant would result in one’s reputation plummeting off a cliff.
“Lone Star Merchant’s big boss has arrived in person……”
“Who knew Texas was a fellow maid enthusiast?!”
“Shh! Keep it down. If you offend the Lone Star Merchants, within two days the NPCs all across Mikkel kingdom would believe you had an affair with some old smelly slut.”
“Besides, I reckon Texas wants a female secretary. An NPC maid’s loyalty is much higher than that of a real person, let alone as capable as Anna… capable in many ways.”
“Anna looked at me! She even winked!”
As if! Don’t make things up! It’s just because I’m unable to fully utilize my reconnaissance skill, so I had to visually look at all of you!
“I came before you because I had a matter I needed to discuss with you,” Texas said, “Recently, I came across an exceedingly precious treasure by chance. I was reminded of how a jeweled sword on a sword rack is just a simple ornament, and only when paired with a master will it display its cutting edge. In a similar manner, therefore…”
As he said this, Texas opened his palm, and a thread of red-hot flame appeared within it.
The flame moved, constantly changing as if it were self-aware, eventually becoming more and more gentle. Finally, much like a meek kitten, it settled into its final form.
“… this [Phoenix Evening Dress], I have decided to gift this to the lady in the Mikkel kingdom who would most be able to let it blossom. Please accept it.”

the only thing i can understan in the chapter was, “wearing pantyhose”,”Will Maid”,A merchan called Texas”
— Thanks for the chapter~ ^^
Going for the standard game mechanic of Gifts>Affection haha. Let’s see if this tried and true method will yield results! I’m still a bit confused about the story’s setting though. It seems like Anna is not isekaied, but legit stuck in a NPC from some VRMMO?
From my understanding she died and then reincarnated as an NPC similar to legendary mechanic without being sent back in time. Whether or not you consider this “game world” an isekai is up to your interpretation
Another possibility is that she’s heavily injured from the accident. She was transferred to a high tech medical facility and the doctors put her into the game to keep her mind active.
Gift her the name tag of her former mistress, and you’ll be fast friends with Anna
