I finished the post-battle report at the castle Father brought me along with and was about to board the carriage to return home.

I saw Mark and Letia, who I had saved when we fought the behemoth, with a beastman girl with light pink hair, white cat ears, and a tail, who was about my age. Her only feature was her ears and tail, so I couldn’t tell she was a beastman at first glance. She was in front of the royal castle at the place marked ‘Bereaved Family Info Area’.

“Father, there’s someone I’d like to talk to, so please give me a moment.”

After saying that, I left the carriage and headed towards them.

“Ah, you’re that girl from…” Letia was the first to react to me coming towards them.

“Ahh! You’re the girl that saved me. Thank you so much for saving me that time!”

Next, Mark approached me waving his hands in an exaggerated motion. In contrast to Letia, he seems to have a cheerful and friendly personality.

“I’m Mark, this is Letia and Mina,” Marc introduced everyone.

“I’m Daisy,” I replied and gave my name.

“Nevertheless, that dress… man, to think a miss from a noble family would be distributing potions at the front line.”

Letia looked at me in my dress, as if my young miss-like look was beyond her recognition, and shrugged her shoulders as if exaggerating her astonishment.

“Yeah, that’s why I think I’ll probably be getting a sermon when I get home.

I stuck my tongue out a little, then shrugged my shoulders with a smile.

“By the way, the reason you’re all here is…”

When I cut to the chase, Letia and Mark looked at each other while Mina was looking down.

“You see, my mother and father were adventurers… and they participated in the subjugation at the south gate today…”

Mina tried to answer as she looked down, but her words eventually became tears, dripping onto the ground.

When I noticed, probably because Father noticed that this was ‘that sort of place’, he came over from behind.

Father left my side and crouched down in front of Mina, so that their eyes were at the same level. Then, he began asking in a gentle tone, “Sorry to interrupt all of a sudden. I’m Daisy’s father… Miss, did your father and mother both pass away in this fight?”

“…Mhm. Mina’s papa and mama eloped and became adventurers, so I have no one left in my family…”

Then, Mina’s emotions got worked again and she began to cry.
Father just gently patted Mina’s back.

“Does Mina have anywhere to go?” Father asked Mina gently.

Mina shook her head with tears in her eyes.
Mark and Letia also had their heads hung.

‘…Mina, let me take a quick look,’ I apologized from my heart for taking the liberty of confirming, and looked at her with ‘Appraisal’.

[Mina]

Commoner (Orphan)
Health: 25/25
Mana: 50/50
Job: None
Skill(s): Cooking (4/10), Laundry (3/10), Cleaning (3/10), Water Magic (1/10), Fire Magic (1/10)
Reward and Punishment: None

I secretly whispered to Father, “She doesn’t have a history worth mentioning. Also, she has a talent for housework, especially cooking.”

“Mmm,” Father just nodded.

“Mina, if this continues, you will have to go to an orphanage, or find a way to live by yourself. Thus, if you are fine with it, how about staying with us for the time being, while you decide what your future plans will be? If you can do some housework or something or that sort, you can become a maid in our house, and in the future, you can work beside my daughter Daisy when she becomes independent. If you don’t want to do that, we can help you find a place to work. How about it?”

Mark and Letia’s expressions brightened at Father’s suggestion and they looked relieved.
Mina was bewildered, not knowing how to respond to the sudden proposal.

“I’m Henry von Preslaria. A legitimate noble serving the king of this country. Your father and mother are heroes who gave their lives for this country. I would never harm the children of such people. I will never harm you, the child of such people. Until you decide what to do from now on, you can be at ease at my house. No need to hold back.”

Mina looked at Mark and Letia’s expression.
They nodded their heads in agreement.
Maybe she was feeling slightly relieved, the tail between Mina’s legs, which was drooping down, slightly rose.

“I… don’t know anything… about etiquette at all, but I will do my best to learn. So, please take care of me,” she bowed to Father.

Father patted Mina’s head, then Mina revealed a smile.

Father and I brought Mina back to our house.
