I will soon be five-years-old and I was also mischievous. Let me show you each person surrounding me in this household that I’ve explored and played hide-and-seek in.

Let me introduce to you the people in my daily life.

“Ojou-sama. Shall we play after you have breakfast?

“Sure♪”

The person who called out to me was Tokito Aki-san, a maid that came from the Keikain House.

She’s the maid who keeps me company most of the time.

She did not have any parents and she schooled while working as a maid.

“Thank you for waiting. Today’s meal is the salmon fillet that Ojou-sama loves.”

“Salmonnn!”

The person who made the meal was Saito Keiko-san, my wet nurse-cum-maid.

She was supposed to be single, but if you put her side-by-side with Aki-san, they look like a parent and child no matter how you look at it.

Ah… let’s pretend I never realized this.

The darkness of families which aren’t noble, is deep.

There is a person named Katsura Naomi-san, who shifts with these two.

Naomi-san is off today, and she is the one that accompanies me when Aki-san goes to school.

“Say your peace, it’s time to feast.” 1

Everyone put their hands together when I spoke and ate.

Although I was a child, I am the mistress of this mansion, so I sat at the head of the table.

Naturally, there are male laborers beside the female laborers, and this mansion is supported by those people.

“Ojou-sama. After your study time, would you like a nap in the afternoon……”

Tachibana Ryuji is a person attached to this mansion and my butler.

He’s a gentleman past his middle-ages who settles my issues in my place, but it’s somewhat scary when he looks at me with an appraising eye sometimes.

For the time being, I am planning on continuing to pretend to be a pure child.

Even if just in name, the number of people assigned to me, a duke’s daughter, are few and this is the life I am living right now.

…All of these people didn’t appear in the game, but I wonder what’s the deal?

“Ojou-sama. Where are you?”

“I’m not going to tell you ♪”

I explored the mansion while playing hide-and-seek with Aki-san.

The 50-year-old two-story Western-style mansion with a garden was used as my residence in the game. I felt that this was how the house would be if the illustration was turned to reality..

This mansion, in Denenchofu, Ota-ku, Tokyo, was originally used as the Keikain family’s villa and later handed over to my father, but now, no one comes to visit where I live.

The head branch of the Keikain family is located in Shirokane, Minato-ku, Tokyo.

When I was hiding under the tree’s shadow, I could hear a voice coming from the other side of the wall.

“Was this the Keikain family’s mansion? It looks like the gates are always closed though?”

“Yes. It’s a villa. The main house should be in Shirokane if I remember correctly. Currently, there is just a small girl living alone.”

“That’s pitiful. The Keikain family also had a splendid past a long time ago, but they seem to be suffering now.”

“If you put it like that, it’s the same no matter where you go. The bubble brings me back.”

The collapse of the bubble economy.

Whether it’s the Lost Decade or Lost 20 Years, it was the economic event that decided the recession in this country that spanned a long period. 2

Currently, we’re in the middle of the aftermath, and the wives’ voices on the other side of the wall were mixed with a somewhat hint of uneasiness.

The problem is that it gets worse from here, but the only person who knows that is just me.

“Wah!?”

“I found you, Ojou-sama. I told you that hiding under the tree’s shadows was no good, didn’t I?”

“Ehehe. Sorry.”

I got up from under the tree’s shadows and was scolded by Aki-san.

I was suddenly curious, so I tried asking.

“Aki-san goes to school, right? Is it fun?”

“Yes. I attend the high school section, but if my scholarship application passed, maybe I’ll enter the university section. Of course, I don’t plan on leaving Ojou-sama’s side.” 3

Those words were enough.

Nobility is a world of appearances.

If an employed maid is going to college, the noble must cover the fees or else they’d be made fun of.

They might say something like, “Is that family not economically well-off.”

Nevertheless, Aki-san said the word ‘scholarship’.

From those words, I could tell that the Keikain family doesn’t have the leeway for Aki-san.

I clearly understood that this life would not last long.

“Wow. It’s so much……”

I picked a time when my butler Tachibana was away and secretly checked the books.

What you could see was the expenditure of a noble’s life

It seems like they cut down since I was alone, but the labor cost of four people was two million yen.

Including the utility bills and miscellaneous expenses, the total amount was three million yen a month.

On the other hand, my income was completely dependent on the transfer from the Keikain main family, but the sum has clearly decreased.

It was once five million, but now it has been reduced to three million. Tachibana has been using the surplus money to practice managing money and being thrifty with the insufficient amount of money.

I know that the finishing blow of the collapse of the bubble economy was coming, so this budget will be further reduced.

“Yeah, I don’t want to be separated from Tachibana, Keiko-san, Aki-san, and Naomi-san.”

Even if I become a villainess, no, I have to do as much as I can to support the people that follow me.

That’s why I decided to take off the mask of a good girl so that I don’t have to be separated from these people.

      1. The sentence itself is not wrong (except for “Akisan” instead of “Aki-san”) but your comment does point out that it is pretty unclear. I have revised the sentence to be more clean. Thanks for pointing it out!
