Chapter 1: Reincarnated Maid Anastasia

Anastasia, Gender: Female, Species: Human, Age: 17, Unmarried, Occupation: Maid.

Technically, my job was obeying orders as a player servant. In-game, servants that players were able to capture and train are mostly wild monsters, very few servants had a human form.

I would be classified as a super rare human servant: A unique and unmatched exclusive NPC, simply second to none.

Because I had worked as a servant during my past life, I was not dissatisfied with my status in the game. I had frequently come into contact with maids as part of my previous life, and I did not have any particular apprehension towards maid uniforms. Rather, wasn’t it natural for a female servant to wear a maid uniform?

A servant didn’t have to add adornments to their outfit, but all-in-all it was essential for it to be neat and clean, therefore I was willing to accept this black and white maid uniform… but I felt that the skirt which just covered the knees was a bit too short, and the excessive lace trim did bother me. Though I wouldn’t go so far as to say I disliked them and they didn’t affect cleaning, it didn’t seem like the lace had any purpose other than to add some flowery flavor.

The setting of the game was based around the end of the middle-ages, with some fantasy races added and woven together to form a fantasy world. I wouldn’t say I was absolutely certain but I was fairly sure neither a maid uniform with such a short skirt nor girls who would wear black silk pantyhose existed during the medieval period, though game companies do need to make a living don’t they, so they did have to at least meet the expected aesthetics of their player base, at bare minimum the characters which players can obtain must be carefully designed.

At least that’s what I felt must have been going on.

“Anna~A~~~na~~~”

A girl was knocking on the door.

The moment I opened the door, I instinctively dodged sideways, just in time to see a beautiful figure fly past me and, with a loud bang, embed herself onto the freshly cleaned floor.

With perfect maid etiquette, I politely addressed this strange lifeform on the floor.

“Good day, Lady Christiana”

Christiana Montefeltro, the only daughter of Count Montefeltro, a noblewoman who didn’t have the aura of nobility, surrounded by servants who were all lovely and beautiful girls, and who didn’t care about what others thought of her —— this information flashed rapidly through my mind. Recently she had been dropping by for a visit almost every day.

Strange Lifeform Montefeltro twitched twice in response.

“Anna~~ You meanie—”

She sniffed and sobbed, her eyes barely holding back tears.

“I’ve clearly been worried about you! Also, I’ve already told you to just call me Chris, geez!”

“That’s out of the question. You’re a noble. Should I address you so casually, I would greatly offend the House of Montefeltro.”

“Don’t be so stiff! If it comes to it, I’ll throw a fit, and then even my father would not say it’s inappropriate!”

“… Forgive my insolence, but is Lady Christiana not 17 years old already?”

“That’s right, that’s right, I’m 17, Anna’s also 17, a perfect match!”1

What I meant was, wasn’t 17 too old an age for a young lady to be throwing a tantrum in front of her father…

Forget it, it’s not like I was a servant of the Montefeltro family, it’s not my job to correct Chris’ character. Chris also hasn’t done anything excessively rude, so there’s also no reason to eject her outside.

Thus I deliberately side-stepped Chris’ expectation-filled response.2

“Would an ordinary cup of black tea be acceptable?”

“As long as it’s a tea that Anna has personally brewed, I’ll cheerfully accept it even if it was poisoned! Actually, maybe I’ve been poisoned long ago, with something called–– the Poison of Love!!!”

“Understood, please wait a moment.”

“A freezing cold response?! I thought my last line was super cool!!”

I sat forward in my chair, pointedly ignoring the almost-petrified Chris.

Fortunately, I was previously a servant, though I have changed my gender, it’s pretty straightforward to act naturally in-role, therefore there’s no risk of me exposing my secret.

Using ordinary black tea to entertain guests is undoubtedly bad manners. However, I’ve looked through my inventory while cooking the slime, and there was only black tea remaining to entertain guests. In fact, slime was the only remaining food in the house, especially since it’s long shelf life is its biggest advantage.

While I was preparing the tea, Chris seated herself in the lobby. This lady who had tears pouring like raindrops just a few minutes ago was now sitting upright, eager and full of expectation.

“Apologies for the wait.”

I presented the tea and stood by in attendance opposite Chris. Normally, one would expect my master to be the one who would address Chris, and I would stand behind them at attention, but I did not currently have a master.

Chris took a small, gentle sip of the tea, lowered the cup to the saucer, and a moan of infatuation passed her lips. An expression of contentment was present on her delicate face.

Well, I am max-level at tea making, as expected of myself.

Chris’ wine-red eyes once again regained their usual glistening dazzle, and her lips slackened.

“—— Anna, let’s elope.”

“Mistress Christiana, please forgive me for not knowing that you’re able to get drunk even with black tea.”

“No! I’m being super serious!”

Chris shook her head vigorously, her long maroon hair dancing as she did so.

“— Thinking about how Anna would be bullied by those adventurers tomorrow, I was so sad I could have eaten seven pineapple buns in one breath!”

“As far as I know, you usually average six a day, and being humiliated by adventurers can’t be helped…”

Adventurers: They’re what the NPCs living on the Lemuria continent called players. Since my young miss3 is also an avid player of this game, ‘adventurers’ as a name naturally includes her. Hearing a remark which would belittle my young miss, I tactfully raised an objection.

But Chris doesn’t agree; she regarded adventurers as devils and monsters, an extremely dangerous and threatening bunch.

She slapped the table, and lamentably said to me:

“Anna is too pure! We’re talking about adventurers! With 100 crystals payment, an adventurer will take great risks. With compensation of 1000 crystals, they would trample down any law. With 10,000 crystals, they wouldn’t hesitate to perform any crime, even at the risk of becoming a wanted person by the kingdom! Anna’s worth, on the other hand, is well above 10,000 crystals!!”

“I-Is that so…?”

What kind of existence was an adventurer? Were they really as frenzied an existence as Chris says? As far as I remembered, Crystals were the in-game currency, in Lemuria, it could be said to be a highly versatile resource.

I already know what will happen tomorrow, the game officials will publicize a type of new mechanic. In the previous mechanic, if players wanted to gain followers, they would have to first defeat them before gaining a chance of taming them as their followers. Different NPCs had different taming methods, but despite the uncountable permutations, there was no way to avoid a fight.

However, tomorrow’s update would add a new system, where the methods of acquiring unique NPCs followers would increase by one — dating them, and making them fall for you.

Only one exclusive NPC was fitted with the new system, this NPC was named Anastasia.

“……………”

Eh?! It’s me?!

  1. 门当户对 also implies a good match as a marriage partner, which Anna also picked up on
  2. See previous note.
  3. She(he?) is referring to her(his?) original mistress (from the prologue)

  1. Oh boy the shenanigans will begin. I wonder how the system will work. Does it actually track what Anna feels about the people trying to court her, or will be there some gamey progress bars that arbitrarily go up and down regardless of her will? I have lol’d at the simple gifts=affection systems that so many games have.

Thanks for the translation! I’m definently super interested in seeing what happens next.

    1. In typical webnovel fashion, the author loves to explain and re-explain things multiple times through the story, so hopefully you’ll find things will be clearer down the line.

  2. Oooo seems like i wasnt wrong. This LN promise to be interesting~ for now, do your best maid-san so you could survive in this harem mode world!! *go take some Popcorn and sit down*. I’ll support you from here~
Ty for the translation! And btw Mary, is your profil pic Flandre Scarlet?

  3. Interesting, the world actually… retains it’s game mechanics, and she’s the price?

Speaking of, waifus certainly are something highly fought over by whales, and if 10.000 crystals are smth like premium currency while ana is one of a kind, she could easily cost an irl mansion with 10 years rent~
