Let’s Create the Chatty Knurl

I had finished collecting with the nation’s knights and returned home.
Then, at that moment, I passed by Mina on her way to the kitchen.

“Welcome back, Daisy-ojousama,” Mina greeted me with a bow.

I treated her as a guest in my home until she felt comfortable, but ever since we had worked together on the Danish pastries, she had spent every spare moment in the kitchen. As a result, she had chosen to work as a servant in the kitchen. She moved into a vacant servant room and is now working in the kitchen as a servant, starting as an apprentice.

By the way, she said she would like to learn from Bob and Maria before I open my own atelier and work for me as a cook in the future. I cannot cook, so I am very grateful!
So far, the people who are going to follow me are Marcus and Mina. Leaf as well. I would like to talk to them about my future atelier.

After parting ways with Mina, I went to my room to change my clothes and moved to my laboratory to create the ‘Want to Talk Knurl’. Incidentally, for normal young misses, they would have their maids help them change their clothes, but in my case, this was a condition for becoming independent, so for a while, I have been trying to do my own things as much as possible as training.

I entered my laboratory.

The ‘Want to Talk Knurl’ and the ‘Donna Grass Roots’—I lined these two ingredients up together and thought about the sequence in brewing them.

I decided to extract each ingredient individually, then mix them together—just like what I did when I made the ‘Potent Detoxification Potion’ before.

In the first place, the method of throwing all the ingredients together had luckily worked so far, and I had reflected on how crude I had been.

First, the ‘Talking Mushrooms’.

I finely chopped the ‘Talking Mushrooms’, then I put it in a beaker filled with a bit of water and started heating the beaker.

Quality: Low—
Details: The ingredients have not been extracted.

When I let it sit for a bit longer, small bubbles began to form on top of the water, clinging to the sides of the beaker.

Then, the bubbles began to go *pop pop* on the water’s surface.

Details: The ingredients have begun to dissolve.

After, I regulated the heating tool so the current temperature

[Want to Talk Extract]

Classification: Medicine Base
Quality: High
Details: The ingredients are well-extracted.

When I continued heating the mixture for a little bit longer, I was able to properly produce the extract!

Next, I finely minced the ‘Donna Grass Roots’, then put them in a beaker together with water.

[Temptation Extract???]

Classification: Medicine Base
Quality: Low—
Details: The ingredients have not been extracted.

When I let it sit for a little bit longer, the water started to burble. Then, as I assumed, the state of the solution did not change from before reaching the boiling point.
If the materials are roots, is it difficult for the components of the roots to dissolve without boiling? I took this down in my notebook for future reference.

While doing so, the solution began to boil.
The finely minced Donna Grass Roots danced as the bubbles burbled.

All right! Boiling the roots is still okay!
Then, let’s let it continue boiling…

[Temptation Extract]

Classification: Medicine Base
Quality: High
Details: The ingredients are well-extracted.

After simmering for a while, I was able to properly produce the extract.

Well then, the last step is to use a Magic Gem to make the two extracts react.

I put the Magic Gem into the Want to Talk Extract, then added the Temptation Extract that had cooled down considerably.
Then, I carefully stirred.

[Want to Talk Knurl?]

Classification: Medicine
Quality: Low—
Details: Multiple mutual components have not reacted.

The reaction did not progress much at the current temperature, so I carefully heated the solution.
After all, before fully boiling, there is no loss of quality, so I raised the temperature to the boiling point and kept it there.

[Want to Talk Knurl]

Classification: Medicine
Quality: Low–
Details: Multiple mutual components have begun to react.

Yup, it should go well like this…
I slowly stirred the solution with a rod.

Then.

[Want to Talk Knurl]

Classification: Medicine
Quality: High
Details: Drug that makes the drinker feel good about and be honest with another person for a certain amount of time depending on the amount taken. Should not be misused.

“Should not be misused.”…
That’s right, I made that kind of potion.

I was reminded once again that alchemy is in a spot in which one can create things that can become something bad depending on the judgment of the user. I told myself that I should definitely embed this memory properly into my heart.

The ‘Want to Talk Knurl’ was handed over to His Majesty the King via Father.

Soon after, the whole capital was in an uproar when an influential nobleman was arrested for the attempted murder of the royal family.
The mastermind behind the incident was a certain marquis and his daughter. The king, who adheres to monogamy, refused to have the marquis send his daughter to the king’s side, so he planned to kill the prince so that he would have no heir. Also, it turned out that the daughter, in her hatred for Her Majesty the Queen, who was favored, had once poisoned Her Highness.
That family was stripped of their nobility, their lands were taken away, and the two masterminds were sentenced to death.

While the gossip had not yet died down, I was summoned by His Majesty the King to the royal castle with Father.
I was taken to a small room that was designed for secret meetings. His Majesty was standing by the window of the room.

“I am sorry that I have involved you, a young child, in the ugly strife of the nation. However, thanks to you, I have secured the safety of my beloved family… Daisy, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

From the window where His Majesty stood, I could see Her Royal Highness and both Their Little Highnesses laughing happily as they strolled in the bright sunshine and beautiful flowers of the garden. The sound of their laughter could be heard inside this room. A very happy-sounding laughter.

His Majesty turned to me and said, “Everything is thanks to the medicine you made. Daisy, I will grant you whatever you wish if I can. What is your wish?”

“…Please promise me that you will never order me to make such a potion again. Also, I will become an independent alchemist as soon as I am ready. Please give me permission,” I quietly replied to His Majesty.

“…I understand. I will do everything I can to help you open your atelier. I will also send you a payment equivalent to the worth of the safety of my family later.”

“…Thank you very much.”

Thus, with this incident, I became a little more mature and began to prepare myself for my independence.

Author Note: I tried to layer Daisy’s position as an alchemist with that of a modern chemist and physicist. It can be medicine but it can also be poison. It can be useful but it can also be a weapon. It’s difficult, isn’t it? I hope I was able to express this feeling well…
The next part will be a positive story about the opening of the atelier!

Translator Note: This is the end of Volume 4: “The Conspiracy Swirling Around the Royal Family and Alchemist”! Personally, this is the worst arc so far. I like what the author was trying to do, but the execution was poor. My motivation took a huge hit when I started translating the previous volume (the stampede defense arc), but translating this arc was painful. The amount of cringe and the sh*ty naming sense from the author really did not help. Thankfully, we’re back into the laid-back, chill slice of life that we all signed up for starting the next chapter.

  1. Thanks for the chapter!

I liked this arc. It showed the MC what her creations can potentially do. That’s a fine character development.

    1. This arc is somewhat similar to Chinese novels in a sense. It’s one of those arcs where they reveal that medicine can be poison in the hands of evil, similar to here where alchemy can be used evil if in the wrong hands. If I didn’t have to translate each sentence, I probably think this arc would be pretty good as well. Thanks for your opinions!
