What is it, this burning temple? The burnt smell, the heat, is it really burning? No, that shouldn’t be the case, this is surely because I opened the wrong exit. A film shoot? An attraction? A film village? That place there looks a lot like the dramas and films I’ve seen on the national broadcast.

“Muwahahahaha, it would be good if Nobunaga would be killed by someone like Mitsuhide. Is this the lifespan that was granted to me by the heavens? This cannot be avoided.”

A dandy middle-aged man– wearing a white kimono that was either white nightclothes or a yukata, with long white hair tied up into a ponytail, and a grown-out beard—smiled with a black-lustered bow, similar to the ones at the museum, in his hand.

As I tried to close the fusuma that I just opened as I saw this extremely unrealistic scene in a hurry, it didn’t budge at all. It wasn’t like my back gave out and I couldn’t exert and strength, I properly used enough strength, but the door wouldn’t close.

While I was struggling, “Nobunaga, prepare yourself! Shoot, shoot, shoottt!”

Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang.

The guns aimed at the dandy middle-aged man wearing a white kimono, and the matchlock was lit on fire, however, he did not falter and shot down the enemies wielding matchlock guns one by one with a bow and arrows from the wall he climbed up.

Hey, bastard, who are you? You have a weird appearance. Where are you from?”

Weird appearance?

Our high school has a normal gakuran jacket. 1 It’s an orthodox uniform, you know?

Hm? Ah, it’s that sort of setting, so that’d make me weird?

I couldn’t quite grasp the situation I was put in but my mind changed my view to something more convenient.

That’s right, this must be some sort of attraction. That type of personal experience type of attraction that’s been popular recently.

I thought that it was appropriate to think like that.

I didn’t pay any money to enter, so I should anyhow apologize.

“Sorry. Sorry. I’ll leave right away.”

Scary, frightening, scary.

The gaze from the middle-aged man fully equipped with a Chinese bellflower family crest was the scariest.

Hm? That person?

“Hey, bastard, where did you come from? That door there, we began creating it for times at need as an escape passage to a Nanban-ji; it shouldn’t be connected to anything though.” 2

The struggling pajama middle-aged man seemed to be more bothered by me than the enemies before his eyes.

“No no, as I was walking down the temple’s passage, it was pitch black and I couldn’t tell what was what. I just left, so I’ll get out of your way and leave, I’ll take my leave.”

Let’s hurry and get away from this place. Whether this was a film or drama shoot or an attraction, it should be improper for me to be in this place right now.

If this was a film or drama, a fire scene of this size should be hard to do a retake.

“Hah, your appearance is similar to a Nanban missionary. Hm? Are you the shinigami (god of death) that will lead me to hell?” 3

Uwaa, what’s with that? Did I get dragged into this film or attraction? There should be no way to continue this conversation right.

But, I am interested, I’m quite interested.

I’m interested in the person with the Chinese bellflower armor. 4

It’s fine if I’m acting blindly, I need to talk about that.

“That person over there, you’re possessed by a fox, aren’t you?” 5

“Haa? What are you saying? I do not understand at all. Kill that bastard along with Nobunaga, shoot, shoooott.”

Bang bang bang bang bang.

Uwa, a matchlock trick? Preparation? Amazinggg, the floorboards were pierced through. What what? These are live bullets? Trick? A mechanism? Explosives? Eh? 6

I don’t know anymoreeeeee!

F*ckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

I yelled like Koume Dayu. 7

However, it couldn’t be helped since I would be told that I was a hindrance to their filming if the things were not destroyed.

The fox I saw…… Destroying ayakashi is my house rule. That duty, you can call it work, has been passed down for generations in my family. Ayakashi will bring misfortune to any human if not destroyed.8

  1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_uniforms_in_Japan#Gakuran
  2. Flowingcloud: Holy sh*t is this complex to explain. A “Nanban-ji” is basically a temple for ‘Nanban people’ (the Portuguese at this time), in other words, it’s a church. Of course, I didn’t use the term ‘church’ because this word had not existed yet in Japanese at that time, and to show how Japanese people viewed foreigners at that time. “Nanban” literally means ‘southern barbarians’ (lol) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanban-ji
Arocks141: To all SKM readers, yeah, it’s the same nanban, which is used to describe a ‘foreigner’. Shizuko is also called a Nanban since she wore weird clothes and had weird knowledge alluding to a strange origin.
  3. Flowingcloud: This is quite ambiguous by the author. In Shinto culture, there are many gods, so there is no particular death god that he is referring to. It might be a Japanese one, or he might be referring to the Christian one (Satan). Don’t get too triggered by that because the Japanese at that time had only surface knowledge of how Christianity worked unless you were a believer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinigami
  4. Flowingcloud: The main character is not referring to Oda Nobunaga who’s talking to him right now, but instead Akechi Mitsuhide whose family crest is the Chinese bellflower. Oda Clan’s crest is something else.
  5. Flowingcloud: Japanese culture stuff. Foxes were believed to be able to possess people, causing them to act weird. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitsune
  6. Flowingcloud: This might not make sense and it isn’t supposed to. Even in Japanese, his thoughts were just all jumbled up.
