“What I want are the ideas that appear in your mind because of what you know.”

I couldn’t believe my ears.

Not technology or knowledge from the future, but my ideas.

Is there even that much worth in my ideas? The same worth as a feudal domain and a castle.

“Ideas? Not technology or knowledge from the future?”

“Pfft!”

Nobunaga laughed disdainfully again.

“Do you think the techniques of this time can make use of technology and knowledge from the future? It’s the same as that slate, it can’t be made. Of course, I’ll have you teach me what you know, but the creative power that comes from your knowledge, I want your ideas. The way of thinking that appears from what you know, your wild ideas which are far crazier than mine, who doesn’t know about technologies from the future.”

That’s right—smartphones—I knew that it was impossible for me to create telephones.

It should be the same for the majority of the people in the Heisei era.

That technology is beyond our current capabilities and is a pipe dream for this era.

Even if I know that you need a rocket to fly up to space, you need a strong propulsive force strong enough to defy gravity. It’s just an empty dream without the technology to make it a reality.

It’s become a Jules Verne sci-fi novel.

“Ah, certainly.”

That’s right, no matter how much I know, I cannot create the mechanisms to make it a reality.

“Are you interested in serving at my side? You just have to give advice and tell me the things you think of on the spot. How about it? It should not be anything hard.”

Serve at Oda Nobunaga’s side……

I had a really bad feeling.

Without thinking,

“Eek!”

I released a cry similar to a pig’s, covered up my a**hole. 1

“Are you stupid?”

I was told off again.

“I also have my preferences.”

That’s good, I didn’t enter the male homosexuality category.

Speaking of Oda Nobunaga’s close aides, would I be his page? Elite force’s red horo member? Yellow horo? 2

Do I have to go out and kill people?

His retainer? Nobunaga’s orders are absolute.

I don’t know exactly how important it is.

Even in the Heisei era, Japan has banned companies to make their employees pledge allegiance.

Even if I, who grew up in that sheltered world, got into a master-servant relationship, no matter how many castles I possessed, it’s not possible for me to say “yes”.

I can’t give an answer that easily.

That being said, if I refuse, it’s inevitable that I’ll be left out in the cold, I can’t go on living with the general knowledge I had so far outside the castle for sure.

Even if I desire to go back to the Heisei era, I must survive somehow for now.

If that’s the case, I need to enter under someone’s protection.

Does that mean it just happens to be Oda Nobunaga?

In the first place, I don’t hate Oda Nobunaga.

Having met him like this and talked to him left me with an immeasurable deep emotion, and frankly, I am happy, but it’s a different story if I was to become his retainer.

Just because I like him, legends left behind about his quick-temperedness, cruelness, so to be his retainer is…

I might be killed.

When I think about my arms,

“Come to think of it, do you know who I am?”

Nobunaga said to me.

“Yes, you’re a famous person that pretty much all Japanese people know. You’re usually in dramas and movies, and I’ve even learned about you recorded in the textbooks.”

Will he understand what dramas and movies are?

“Dorama (drama), eiga (movie)? Narau (Learn)?” 3

Of course, he wouldn’t understand.

“It’s an appreciation where actors perform a story. Also, ‘narau’ is conducted in a place called ‘school’ where studying is performed, and where Japanese history is taught.”

“I was talked about after I died?”

“Yes, using the information in the Shincho Koki as the basis. Ah! The Shincho koki is a biography that was created by Toyotomi Hideyoshi or someone if I remember correctly.” 4

“Toyotomi Hideyoshi? Who’s that?” 5

“It’s Hashiba Chikizen no Kami Hideyoshi. After the Honnoji Incident, he defeated Akechi Mitsuhide, seized power, became the chief advisor to the Emperor, and unified Japan.” 6

“Hideyoshi did?”

“Yes, after that, Tokugawa Ieyasu became the commander-in-chief, opened up the shogunate in Edo, and the Tokugawa House practically controlled politics in Japanese for about 260 years. 7

“Hahahahaha, there’s some worth in just hearing that story, well then, how about becoming my retainer?”

Oda Nobunaga is surprisingly a person that likes listening to people’s stories.

According to passed down stories, it seems like he listened attentively to the dialogue of two monks of different sects.

However, the person who lost the argument… was beheaded, or so it was said.

‘If I became his retainer, will my head also?’ I thought as I turned pale while holding my neck with both arms.

  1. Flowingcloud: The scream in Japanese is similar to the onomatopoeia to Japanese’s version of ‘oink’.
Arocks141: And enter sad joke. The author has a good idea, but why does he have to add cheap jokes in between?

  3. Flowingcloud: The main character uses modern Japanese phrases/terms, while Oda Nobunaga (and the rest) have been speaking in anarchic Japanese. The phrases like ‘narau’ (learn) has only come into use recently in the Japanese language.
  4. Flowingcloud: In fact, it was written by Ota Gyuichi, a warrior that followed Nobunaga. Either the main character or the author has a bad memory. xD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinch%C5%8D_k%C5%8Dki
  5. Arocks141: Wait, isn’t this AFTER the Honno-ji incident? How can Nobunaga not know Hideyoshi?!
  6. Flowingcloud: Hashiba Chikizen no Kami Hideyoshi is the stylized name of his name, Hashiba Hideyoshi. In fact, he kept using that name even when was granted a new clan name ‘Toyotomi’ by the emperor. However, in modern times, we refer to him as Toyotomi Hideyoshi due to his clan. Also, Chikizen no Kami is the honorary court office he inherited.

  7. Flowingcloud: Tokugawa basically became the shogun. In Japanese history, basically whoever was the shogun had the real power. Barely in history did the emperor have any real power.
